November 20, 2014… Pat the Dog Theatre Creation is pleased to announce that they have received $235,400 in funding from the Province-wide Program of the Ontario Trillium Foundation.

The funding, $235,400 over 36 months, is to offer programs and services for playwrights and build partnerships with theatre organizations across Ontario. Theatre artists will be employed and new audiences reached with a particular emphasis on employing local artists through play readings, workshops, and other means of theatre creation in Waterloo Region, Brantford, Hamilton, London and Sudbury.

It is the first time that a Waterloo Region mid-sized arts organization has received back-to-back funding awards from the Ontario Trillium Foundations Province-wide program, which is adjudicated by the Board of Directors of the Ontario Trillium Foundation.

“We’re thrilled at their confidence in our work,” says Lisa O’Connell, Pat the Dog’s artistic director. “Their support of our organization and specifically of new play development outside the GTA is very encouraging.”

Pat the Dog has been serving emerging and established playwrights in Ontario since 2006 and is the only playwright development centre in Ontario open to theatre creators at all stages of their career. Playwrights receiving support from Pat the Dog have received and or been nominated for the Governor-Generals Award (Drama), RBC Tarragon Emerging Playwright Award, the Carol Bolt Award among others. Pat the Dog’s offices are located in Waterloo Region, at the Walper Hotel where they are Resident Artists and Sudbury, ON where they produce the annual PlaySmelter Festival.
